Social Issues with Cindy Sherman

As we indulge into a world that consists of art and woman, it is no surprise when we see the efforts of artists, particularly female artists, creating pieces that represent woman as more than just a pretty face. Cindy Sherman, age 64, is an American photographer and film director, who highlights the objectification of women. In her 1981 series, Centerfolds, she wanted men to expect a woman that's sexually appealing but rather gets a woman who appears victimized. I chose Cindy Sherman to highlight this social issue because the objectification of woman is more normalized than it should be. It's easy for woman to lose their voice when they lose possession over their bodies and Cindy Sherman allows individuals to feel what it's like, through the eyes of her photographs.
