Sally Mann has won numerous awards and is a distinguished photographer in the United States. Mann creates larger scaled black and white photographs that often portray childhood, sexuality, and death. When she was a young girl her father actual photographed her nude. Some of her work includes the photography of nude twelve-year-old girls. This would cause controversy amongst people as it was distributing to many. However, some portrayed this work as a genuine exploration of the complexity of childhood. Mann would typically capture the darker side of childhood including a picture of her daughter lying a urine-stained mattress. Mann would often use her own children(as shown below) to photograph for her publications.
