Beatriz González

Beatriz Gonzalez is a woman of many things; from being a painter, sculptor and art historian she is most importantly considered one of the founders of todays Modern Columbian art. Growing up in Columbia throughout the 40's and 50's  Beatriz expressed the political outbreak , know as "La violencia", through her art - which at the time was viewed as bold. She   illustrates tragic events that occurred through that period of time.

"Sometimes I see myself like a transgressor that didn’t fit in her time".

In this piece Beatriz portrays "the face of glamour, in other words she exposes the government manipulations; hiding the ongoing violence behind a masked truth. I admire Beatriz's courage to expose the truth and speaking louder  through her paintings, while ignoring critics. Although at the time her paintings were viewed as outrages, it is because of her (and many others) that the outbreak of art is now a universal way of expression.
